Material preview gets broken, appears grey and flat

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I'm currently evaluating Cycles 4d for our studio and was following along an introductory tutorial when suddenly my material "broke". It appeared gray and unshaded both in the preview and in the render view. I tried deleting nodes to troubleshoot. In the screenshot I'm down to only one and it's still broken.

I tried switching materials around and eventually the material in question started working again, but only in the render view. The preview is still gray and unshaded. This all started as I was mixing two noises through a MixRGB node.

I have tried disabling and re-enabling  material preview in the basic output settings, but to no avail.

if RT preview is running, material preview won't update until you pause the RT preview, this is to ensure that RT got all resources as material preview update eats a lot of resources.
